LUCKNOW: The Central Bureau of Investigation submitted its chargesheet, naming five people for torturing the Unnao rape survivor's father which led to his death in April this year. Atul Sengar, brother of rape-accused Unnao MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, is one of the accused in this case.

Others named in the chargesheet, filed on Saturday at a special court in Lucknow, are Vineet Mishra, Bauwa Singh, Sonu Singh, and Suman Singh, all residents of Sarai Thok Makhi, Unnao. They were arrested on the charges of attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, rioting, and voluntarily causing hurt. The CBI, however, did not find any evidence against another accused Shailendra Singh alias Shailu in the investigation and accordingly exonerated him from the probe.

Taking the chargesheet on record, special judicial magistrate (CBI) Sapna Tripathi fixed July 11 for taking cognizance of the offences. All the five chargesheeted accused are at present in judicial custody. The judge also directed the release of Shailendra Singh.

In its chargesheet, CBI investigating inspector Anil Kumar charged the accused people under Sections 147, 148, 149, 323, 504, 506 and 302 of IPC read with section 34 of the IPC. CBI mentioned names of 76 witnesses and 53 documentary evidence in its 19-page CS. CBI had registered the FIR in this case on April 12, 2018 on the complaint of Asha Singh, the wife of the deceased, and started the probe. As per the chargesheet, on April 3, the survivor's father had come to Unnao from Delhi to attend the court proceedings regarding the registration of a case against MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar for allegedly raping his daughter. However, around 6pm, the MLA's brother Atul Singh Sengar along with Vineet Mishra, Bauwa Singh and Sonu Singh abused and brutally assaulted him after keeping him in confinement. They also beat the survivor and her mother when they tried to intervene. Later, when they approached the police of Makhi police station, the complaints of the survivor's father went unheard and the accused in connivance with cops got a case registered against the survivor's father. He was also arrested under a case of arms act. Senior CBI officers told TOI that an investigation into the role of MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and SHO of Makhi police station in the torture case is still under probe while the investigation in other two cases, including one related to rape, is on.
