Travel agent wanted in 35 duping cases arrested

LUDHIANA: Police have arrested two travel agents and booked their accomplice for duping people on the pretext of sending them abroad.
Those arrested were identified as Nitish Ghai of Mahavir Jain Colony in Sundar Nagar and Ravinder Singh of Tibba road. Their accomplice were identified as Manish Kumar, brother of Nitish Ghai.

Police said the accused had set up different travel agencies across the district to dupe people who aspired to go abroad for better job prospects.

Deputy commissioner of police Gagan Ajit Singh said the arrested accused had several cases against them in various police stations. They were accused of running fraud travel agencies and duping several people on the pretext of sending them abroad for employment.

“Nitish Ghai was wanted in more than 35 cases as several cases have been registered in his name at different police stations of Ludhiana, Phagwara, Delhi and Kanpur,” he said.

“During investigation, police came to know that Nitish Ghai had three travel agencies in the district and earned Rs 70-80 lakh per month. Their travel agencies lured clients through advertising in newspapers and they had also tied up with three medical centres in the district to provide fake medical certificates to clients, while claiming that it would facilitate them in going abroad and finding a job.

Senior police officials said legal action would be taken against the medical centres.

Police have registered a case under Sections 420 (fraud), 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) of the Indian penal code (IPC) and 10 and 24 of the Immigration Act against Nitish Ghai.
