Revenue Minister RB Udhayakumar said a satellite city would come up near here at Thoppur with all necessary facilities. Speaking to reporters after flagging off new bus services at Thirumangalam on Saturday, the Minister called the much-awaited satellite township, a dream project of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa.

It would house various entertainment venues and would assume great significance on a par with places like ‘Mannar Thirumalai Naicker Mahal, Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple and Theppakulam, the Minister added.
He said housing facility would be created for a total of 5,000 households, who are living in huts, and 5,000 more houses would be constructed through Tamil Nadu Housing Board.
More importantly, Thoppur would emerge as a major hub since infrastructural projects such as AIIMS hospital and a bus port would also come up at the same locality.
Further, the Revenue Minister said that law and order has been maintained well in the state as cited by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami in his address in the Assembly.
“But few political parties, which have their own policies of opposing everything, were making baseless charges.
However, people knew the reality of what is happening in the state,” he added.
Meanwhile, Minister for Cooperation Sellur K Raju inaugurated seven new buses without conductors at a programme in Arapalayam bus stand here on Saturday. Talking to reporters after the inauguration, the Minister said as many as 2,015 new buses would be inducted into the fleet in Tamil Nadu and the Chief Minister said the government has decided to buy 3,000 more new buses.
He also said that the ruling AIADMK is ready to face election anytime in the state.
If the Centre wanted to hold elections to Assembly and Parliament simultaneously, his party high command would take a decision on the situation. However, Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha M Thambidurai would speak about this in New Delhi, he added.
Heaping praises on former chief minister Jayalalithaa for her efforts to bring in AIIMS at Madurai, he took pride in it as the ‘son of soil.’
