Shortage of labourers with Mormugao Municipal Council has hampered the task of lifting two-wheelers that are being parked at unauthorised spots across the port town.
As per information, MMC has provided a recovery van cum truck to the Vasco traffic cell to lift two-wheelers if found parked haphazardly and at unauthorised spots.
The council had also allotted four labourers for the job.
The labourers used to assist the traffic police in the drive against unauthorised parking on stretches such as F L Gomes, Swatantra Path and other internal roads.
However, the recovery van of the MMC is lying idle near the police quarters and the drive against unauthorised parking has come to a grinding halt, the reason being shortage of labourers.
The four labourers, provided for the drive against unauthorised parking, are being utilised for monsoon-related workers and, hence, there are no labourers available for the traffic drive.
MMC chairperson Deepak Naik said, “We are facing labour shortage issues and, hence, MMC cannot afford to provide labourers for two-wheeler lifting task. The recovery van is in good condition and is stationed next to the police quarters and as and when labourers are available, we will provide them to carry out drive against unauthorised parking of two-wheelers. Till such time, the lifting of two-wheelers will remain temporarily suspended by the traffic police.”
