Vadodara: United Way of Baroda (UWB), a non-government organization, has launched a year-long ‘I Pledge Movement’ under which it aims at planting 50,000 trees in the city.
UWB has launched the movement to tackle the looming water crisis. Under the plantation drive, not only UWB will plant trees, but also encourage several stakeholders, including NGOs, communities and industries among others to plant trees in the city. Citizens have also been invited to pledge planting trees on a website specially created for the drive.
“We will ask all those who will make the pledge to send us photographs with the trees which they plant. After six months, we will also follow-up and check mortality of the trees, said Rakesh Agrawal, chairman of UWB. “We want citizens to plant more trees anywhere they want because there is no restriction on planting,” he added.
The NGO has already received 15,000 pledges and is approaching more people to join the programme. Agrawal said this drive will be held every year and with each passing year they will take it to next level.
