NOIDA: A
lady doctor aged above 60 at the district hospital in Noida has tendered her resignation, saying she cannot do “night duty”. The doctor put down her papers on Saturday, hours after she saw the duty roster that required her to do six
night shifts this week.
Hospital authorities said her resignation had not been accepted and she had been told to file a fresh one citing “personal reasons” as the cause.
Chief medical superintendent Ajai Agrawal said the doctor had been asked to perform six night duties on rotation in July. “There are only four emergency doctors and all need to be rotated on night duty. If someone is unhappy with this, the doctor can resign on personal grounds. A resignation stating that one cannot do
night duty cannot be accepted,” he said.
Agrawal said the doctor had tendered her resignation twice earlier. “She has been asked to resign on personal grounds. Her fresh resignation will be sent to the government, which will take a call on her decision,” he said.
Sources said the doctor had retired and was on contract at the district hospital. Doctors on contract are paid less than what is offered to those on the rolls of the government.
