An accused who was on the run for 13 runs for his involvement in idol smuggling was arrested by the Idol Wing police and produced before the court in Kumbakonam on Saturday.

A few panchaloha idols went missing in 2005 from Nathumboothanar Temple at Pazhavur in Tirunelveli and 18 persons, including noted idol smuggler Subash Chandra Kapoor, Vallabaprakash, Aditya Prakash and Deenadayalan, were booked by the Idol Wing Police.
The police had been on the lookout for one of the accused, Paramadurai (42), of Paramadevenpatti, for over 13 years. They received a tip-off that he was spotted near Koyembedu bus stand area in Chennai and a police team led by the IG (Idol Wing) AG Pon Manickavel arrested Paramadurai. So far, the Idol Wing police have recovered nine idols.
