TRICHY: A Rs 53crore tourism development project, an important component of the
Smart City Programme, has been okayed by a high power committee whose nod is mandatory to implement smart city projects.
The tourism development project, concentrating on the Area Based Development (ABD) zone comprising Rockfort and vintage Trichy, will spruce up six tourist spots including historical places.
Named as ‘Tourism Development in ABD Area of Trichy Smart City’, the project has taken six iconic spots -- Rockfort, Main Guard Gate, Theppakulam, War Memorial, Municipal Chathiram and Purathana Park on the Butterworth Road.

“Administrative sanction has been obtained from the state-level high power committee that scrutinise the proposals of civic bodies selected for smart city mission. We have to obtain the technical sanction which we are sure about fetching in short span. At this phase, ground works for tourism development would commence in next three months,”

It is learnt that financial estimate of tourism development project was apprised by consultant at Rs 53.52 crore. As the high power committee comprising senior bureaucrats from finance department and Commissionerate of Municipal Administration (CMA) has given the green signal for the project, corporation sources said the proposed project would be discussed with stakeholders for swift implementation.
