LUDHIANA: A special team of Ludhiana police claimed to have busted two gangs of gamblers, one of which was operating in a highly reputed hotel on Ferozepur Road on Friday. Police said the accused were arrested when they were betting on a T20 cricket match between Zimbabwe and Australia.
Deputy commissioner of police (Investigation) Gagan Ajit Singh said following a tip-off, raids were carried following which seven persons who were members of two different gangs were nabbed. Police have recovered mobile phones, laptops and LCDs from them.

DCP said the members of first gang were arrested from a hotel on Ferozepur road. Police recovered a laptop, five mobile phones and an LCD from them. “During preliminary investigation, it came out that the kingpin of the gang was Karan Kundra who had been involved in betting for the past four years. They had booked the room through a website with the help of an ID proof which did not mention a valid address,” he said.

Kundra’s two accomplice Kamal Kumar and Sunil Dang had become active in gambling during the past few months, the police said. Members of second gang were arrested from a rented flat of Rajgarh Estate and police recovered mobile phones, a laptop, an LCD and a 4G hotspot. Police said 14 phones were attached to a suitcase in a specific way, so as to facilitate gambling.

The police have registered two different cases against the gangs at Sarabha Nagar and PAU police stations. They have been booked under Sections 420 (fraud), (forgery of value security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.
