Coimbatore: A major fire broke out at the MRI scan section of Dharmapuri government medical college and hospital on Sunday. While no one was injured, medical equipment worth several lakh rupees were gutted in the incident.
Hospital technical staff had locked the MRI scan room when they left the place on Saturday night, said an official source. Fire broke out on early Sunday morning. Immediately, patients raised an alarm and the hospital management alerted fire and rescues service personnel.
“The patients have spotted a person coming out of the scan room,” said the official source.
A team of firemen, meanwhile, disconnected all electricity connections and sprayed water through the room windows to douse the fire.
Police said, medical equipment worth lakh of rupees were completely destroyed in the fire.
Firemen said the fire was caused by short circuit inside the MRI scan room.
