HISAR: INLD’s Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala on Saturday filed a defamation case against senior Haryana minister Anil Vij for maligning his reputation by calling him a drug addict. A complaint was filed on Saturday before the district court, Hisar, by Dushyant demanding action against Vij under Sections 499/500 of the IPC. The case has been fixed for August 14 for recording of evidence.

In his statement, issued on April 3, 2018, Vij had stated before the media that Dushyant had “started taking drugs and he should go to some rehabilitation centre”. Vij, who is holding the portfolios of health and sports and youth affairs departments, had made the statement after Dushyant had alleged various scams in health department under him.

According to Dushyant, he has been a student of Lawrence School, Sanawar, and has done BSc, business administration, from California State University Bakersfield, USA. He belongs to one of the most respected political families of Haryana. He has submitted that in March, the Hisar MP had held a press conference in Chandigarh, where he had questioned purchases and quotations made by the department of health, National Health Mission and pointed out various irregularities.

“Vij instead of taking cognizance of these anomalies and taking action accordingly, took it as an affront to his authority. Vij went to the extent of defaming the complainant and his entire family and the area of Sirsa/Hisar by making a totally false, baseless and malicious allegations to the effect that the complainant comes from such area where there is a trend of drugs and that the complainant had started taking drugs and should be sent to a rehabilitation centre,” Dushyant has stated in his complaint.

According to Dushyant, allegations made by the minister are totally false and baseless. The complainant has never taken drugs in his life.
