Noted folk singer Kabutari Devi dead

Noted Kumaoni folk singer Kabutari Devi passed away at the Government district hospital in Pithoragarh following a cardiac arrest on Saturday. Termed as Tijan Bai of Hills, the singer was 70. A highly acclaimed folk singer, Devi is remembered for being an original voice of the hills.

In his condolence message, the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said that her contribution in the realm of the folk songs of Uttarakhand is monumental.  Rawat, further, mentioned in his condolence that a recipient of the President Award, Kabutari Devi had come from a remote rural area of Pithoragarh and had given a new identity to the hill culture and folk songs of Uttarakhand  and taken it at the international arena by sheer force of her talent.
