A fifty-five-year-old widow Sucorina Travaco from Bepquegal Curchorem was allegedly murdered in mysterious circumstances at her house on Friday evening.

Curchorem PI said that the deceased was staying with her daughter Velisha (21). Velisha used to go for work in the morning and returned home at about 9 pm. On Friday evening when she came home at about 9 pm she found her mother lying in a pool of blood in the verandah.

She immediately informed her aunt Milagrina Travaco residing at Panchawadi and after her arrival they went to the Curchorem police station and lodged a complaint.

PI Dessai further said that the injuries were fresh and the lady might have been killed some hours back.

The police felt that the murder might have been done out of enmity and not with the intension of theft as the gold ornaments were intact on the deceased body and even cash of Rs 2.90 lakh was safe in the cupboard.

Inquiries revealed that the deceased was running the business of coffin making which her late husband was doing in his life time. The lady had employed a woodcutter to cut tall trees in the area surrounding her house. However, the woodcutter had not returned for work in the last three days.

It is also learnt that the house is in the name of a relative of the deceased Diogo Fernandes residing at Margao. The police said that Diogo has been summoned for interrogation. It is also learnt that the mother and daughter were not in good terms.

The police employed the services of a dog squad and fingerprint expert to investigate the case. On Saturday, the South Goa SP Arvind Gawas visited the crime spot and informed the media that the police have obtained a clue regarding the murder and the criminal will be traced soon. PI Ravindra Dessai is investigating
