The students and teachers of two schools located at Bogda and Baina faced a major inconvenience with rain water entering their school premises following heavy showers in Vasco on Friday and Saturday.

As per available information, the government primary school located at Bogda was flooded with water, following heavy rains that lashed the town.

Students were forced to sit under umbrellas in flooded class rooms. Parents and teachers have raised serious concern over the second such incident which is reported in the school this year due to the monsoon. Ward councilor Nilesh Navelkar raised serious questions over the pathetic condition of the school which forced students to sit under umbrellas due to rain water entering the classrooms.

He disclosed that the state government is not serious on the pathetic condition of the schools. He demanded immediate steps to be taken up by the education department in order to avoid flooding of classrooms in government run schools. He also raised questions over the construction plan of Sanjay School at Bogda which has failed to provide necessary amenities to the students.

In yet another incident, Mata Secondary School which is located at Baina was also flooded with water.

The muddy road which connects Vasco via MPT ground and railway overbridge was also flooded, causing major inconvenience to hundreds of commuters who use the road on daily basis.

Mormugao municipal council chairperson Deepak Naik said that the Mormugao Port Trust has issued NOC for the construction and asphalting of the stretch of road. “Despite the tender floated by the PWD, no bidders have come forward to construct the road”, said Naik. He disclosed that the Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida pursued the construction of the road and has even made efforts to grant NOC from the MPT authorities.

“At present the rescue team of MMC has opened the blockage of a drain which was responsible for creating a flood like situation in and around the vicinity of Mata Secondary School, giving temporary relief to the students and residents”, said Naik.
