MUMBAI: Huge drama unfolded at
Worli's
Doordarshan Towers in the wee hours of Friday after a Vithalwadi resident climbed atop the same refusing to come down. According to fire brigade officials the man was recentaly removed from his job and was facing financial difficulties.
Despite repeated attempts by the police and fire brigade team, the man kept on threatning to jump.
Around 3am on Friday, Mumbai Fire Brigade received a call about a person named Ajay Paswan having intruded into Doordarshan Kendra in Worli climbed up on the television antenna having a height of 350 metres. Officials said that its difficult to comment as to when he might have gone within the premises without any authorised entry.
A fire brigade official said that Paswan himself informed the police control room through his mobile phone about climbing up the tower. "He kept making demands for calling the media until which he would not come down. We tried convincing him as well but each time he would threaten to jump down. It took us almost half an hour to reach up the antenna but Paswan was not allowing us to come anywhere close to him. Human life is precious and hence every effort was being made to bring him down safety," said Devendra
Shivaji Patil --assistant divisional fire official who was involved in the operation. He said that high wind velocity and rains were a huge challenge.
Finally it was past 7am and yet the man was refusing to come down. The platform where Paswan was standing was also very small and therefore it was getting difficult for many officials to remain atop.
"I then pretended to be calling from the media and we set up dummy cameras as well below the television antenna. That is when we learnt that he was working as a driver and was removed from his job," said the fire official.
Finally after almost four hours of discussions, the fire brigade officials managed to convince him to come down and was handed over to the police.
