Pedestrians are concerned vendors will make a comeback

While thanking Zone 13 of Greater Chennai Corporation for re-laying the pavements on Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Road, Taramani, pedestrians have sought placement of more bollards.

The bollards are now few and far apart, and this may hold out an attraction for vendors who will find it convenient to place their carts on the pavements.

A year ago, this road was lined with small-time eateries. The width of the pavements and the presence of techies attracted a large number of vendors.

Also, the walkers requested GCC to pave the remaining areas on both sides of the road.

From the intersection of Rajiv Gandhi Salai and CSIR Road to Ascendas IT Park, walkers don’t face any hardship.

From the IT Park to V. V. Kovil Street, pedestrians have to walk on the carriageway, temporarily, as work on a walkers’ pathway is under way. The area attracts motorists looking for a space to park their vehicles.

On the opposite side, towards Rajiv Gandhi Salai, the pavements are broken and used a trash yard and a reliving spot. The walking area on the stretch is blocked by parking of vehicles.

At points, the walkers’ area towards the IT Corridor has been laid with pavements. The walkers area on both sides of the stretch should be paved at the earliest and more bollards placed to keep vendors at bay, say pedestrians.

A Chennai Traffic Police Official has promised the issue will be addressed at the earliest.
