NEW DELHI: Benchmark equity indices - Sensex and Nifty opened on a flat note on Friday morning with both testing key psychological marks.

The 30-share BSE index a little over 30 points in the negative at 35,543.66. At 9.25 am, the index was in the green and testing the key mark of 35,600. The broader 50-share NSE index too was under pressure and hovering around the 10,750- milestone.

Investors are expected to be cautious in Friday's trading as the US's tariff on Chinese imports worth $34 billion kick in, effective 9.30 am. Asian cues were witnessing muted trade on back of the tariffs.

Among sectors, IT, metal, pharma and PSU bank sub-indices were losing more than a per cent each while FMCG was up 1 per cent.

Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, Infosys and Hero MotoCorp were the top gainers in early treading.
