JEYPORE: Cloused of stone quarries in Jeypore sub-division after  Bariput tragedy has hit construction works. There is an acute shortage of stone materials in the area. After last month’s incident when two drivers died after being trapped under boulders in the quarry, the district administration directed to close down all the stone quarries operating in Jeypore sub-division.

Around 25 stone quarries have been closed affecting the availability of stone materials in the market. Every day, the quarries supply around 300 truck-loads of stone chips that are used for construction works. Contractors have to depend on Damanjodi quarries in Koraput sub-division to meet their requirement. They said prices of stone materials have doubled ever since the quarries were closed.
