4 sub-district hospitals to have intensive care units

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday announced that sub-district hospitals at Valpoi, Ponda, Mapusa and Bicholim will be upgraded with intensive care units.

Besides,  a new 12-bedded medical intensive care unit will also be set up at the Goa  Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.

The certain blood tests which have not been available so far at the GMC will now be carried out at  the premier healthcare institute in the state within the next 25 days.

“Certain tests like Prothrombin Time (PT/INR) blood test for clotting time are   not conducted  right now at the GMC. Hence needed machines will be installed in the next four days. Machines for ‘bacteria culture growing’ and urine analysis  will also be installed within the next 25 days,” he said.

He told the reporters that in order to ensure full-fledged monitoring a new cell under the biochemistry department will be set up to take care of  specialised tests at the GMC.

“We are upgrading all sub-health centres and new primary health centres at  Valpoi and Poriem. We are also assessing the need to set up additional sub-health centres in each taluka,” the minister said.

Claiming that there is no dearth of doctors in the state, Rane said that in the last three months 36 doctors have been recruited and 20 more doctors will soon be recruited.

Moreover, the file on promotions of health officers will be cleared soon, which will in turn create posts for additional 23 doctors to help us in providing health services in rural and urban areas,” he said.

The Goa Antibiotics and  Pharmaceuticals Ltd has been blacklisted. A show-cause notice was issued to the company for delay in supplying the medicine.

“We have tied up with a new company, and by July 19 all types of medicines will be made available at all the primary health centres and the community health

centres,” he said.

On selecting  the model for running the Deen Dayal Sawasthya Seva Yojana,  Rane said  that elaborate discussions on the matter will be held with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday.

A detailed presentation will be made on both the models – third-party administrator and the trust model.

The state government has been running the DDSSY on its own after the United India Insurance Company, which had been awarded the contract to implement the scheme, backed out.

The TB sanatorium at Monte Hill in Marago will  be renovated to house  the AYUSH centre for which Rs 2 crore has already been sanctioned  to the GSIDC.
