Viral video nails school dropout operating on patient, hospital sealed

Hours after a video of Class 8th pass owner of a private hospital in Uttar Pradesh operating on one of the patients went viral on the social media, the authorities sealed the hospital and cancelled its registration for various irregularities, including the practice of employing unqualified persons as doctors, a senior official said here on Thursday.

The district health department on Wednesday raided the Aryan Hospital in Shamli district of UP and found many irregularities, including unqualified persons working as “doctors,” Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Raj Kumar Sharma said on Thursday.

He said a complaint has been lodged against Arjun Singh, the owner of the hospital, and the facility was sealed.

The patients have been shifted to the district hospital, the CMO added.

Earlier, a video had gone viral on the social media in which an unqualified person was seen operating on a patient in the hospital. The raid was conducted by a team of doctors led by Additional Chief Medical Officer Ashok Handa on complaints against the hospital from various quarters.

Earlier, the incident had hogged limelight when an unknown person sent the video of the incident to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO).

 “In a viral video it can be seen there are people present in operation theater, who are not authorised to be there and a nurse can also be seen giving anesthesia to the patient: Ashok Kumar Handa,” said acting CMO Ashok Kumar. This is not for the first time that the hospital was in the news for wrong reason. Earlier, the hospital was sealed for irregularities, but later it was reopened.

According to a TV channel, more than 24 patients have died in the hospital in the last one year.
