Ford’s being their proactive best. The American manufacturer has issued a recall for its sub-4 metre compact SUV, the EcoSport. There are two separate reasons for the callback.
The first recall pertains to the front lower control arm. Ford says that 4,379 units of the compact SUV produced between May and June 2017 need inspection in this regard. The manufacturer will be inspecting the weld integrity of these lower arms to check for any defects. There’s a possibility that the weld strength is below the required specifications for some of these vehicles. A lower control arm is a part of the suspension setup of a vehicle that links the front wheel to the chassis. Ford says a weak weld joint may potentially affect steering control in rare cases.

The second isn’t a recall per se. It’s a service notice for the recliner locks for the front seats. This affects 1,018 units of the EcoSport manufactured between November and December 2017. A recliner lock, as the name suggests, ensures the seat maintains the angle you’ve set.

Here’s the full statement issued by Ford India:
Ford India is voluntarily inspecting 4,379 EcoSport vehicles, made at the company’s Chennai plant between May 2017 and June 2017, for weld integrity of the front lower control arm. The weld strength on some of these vehicles may be below Ford specifications, which in rare cases, can potentially affect steering control.
The company is also writing to owners of 1,018 EcoSport vehicles, made between November 2017 and December 2017, to inspect their cars for driver and front passenger seat recliner locks.
The voluntary inspections are in line with the company’s commitment to deliver world-class quality vehicles to its customers.
