The deliberations were held as part of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) Annual Awards event in Mumbai. While delivering speech at the gathering, Mr Gadkari stated that Government is aiming on sea route and inland waterways. He also mentioned that the Government is promoting use of methanol and ethanol fuels in the cruises to keep fuel cost under control. He also advised that cruise tourist companies to bring cruises from abroad and refurbish them in India which will be cost-effective for them.
Tourism Minister K. J. Alphons stated that tourism has done really well in 2017. He mentioned that the Government is interested in doubling the arrival of foreign tourists in three years. For the first 5 years, Mr Alphons suggested that no GST may be applied to give a boost up to cruise tourism business. He stated that by doing it, Government will lose money in the short run, it will give handsome profit going ahead.
