Describing Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee as a farsighted leader for whom nation came first, Uttarakhand BJP president Ajay Bhatt said today that his life is a source of inspiration for his party.
"Dr Mookerjee always placed national interest above political power. He was in Congress and a member of Jawaharlal Nehru's cabinet at one time, but he quit it and parted ways with Congress as he was opposed to Nehru's policy of appeasement," Bhatt said at a programme at the BJP office in Dehradun to mark the birth anniversary of the Jana Sangh founder.
"His principles will always guide us," he said.
Bhatt said the sacrifices made by Mookerjee and his colleagues made the BJP reach a position of eminence today.
The Bharatiya Jana Sangh was the precursor to the BJP.
