Inventory of alvara and Goa govt land 80% ready PANAJI: An inventory of alvara and government properties is expected to be completed this month. The exercise will prevent accidental and deliberate transactions of government properties as the inventory list will be sent to all sub-registrars and the revenue department, an official said.

The inventory is being carried out by the district collectors and the directorate of settlement and land records.

Once the sub-registrars are handed the list of properties owned by the government, they will be questioned if they accidentally or deliberately allow transactions pertaining to such properties, the official said. So far, the inventory has been completed for 80% of the properties.

The tradition of leasing government land began in November 1917. The Goa government enacted the Goa Land Revenue Code 1968, to repeal the decree, but its content remained intact and the alvara lease mechanism continued. It was later discovered that many of those properties were illegally sold or misused and in some cases, third party rights were created.
