Mexico: Fireworks explosion claims 24 lives, 40 injured

At least 24 people were killed and over 40 others injured last night when a series of explosions ripped through fireworks workshops in the town of Tultepec, north of Mexico City.

According to officials, the dead included at least four firefighters and two police officers who rushed to the scene after the first explosion. Tultepec is known as the country’s pyrotechnic capital.
President Enrique Peña Nieto has promised to rebuild the market and help hundreds of local artisans who had lost their livelihoods.
