BHUBANESWAR: Heavy rainfall has been predicted at isolated places in Odisha, West Bengal, Assam and other States on July 8.“The cyclonic circulation over South Odisha has moved towards interior parts. Besides this, a cyclonic circulation over southeast Bangladesh has moved towards South Bangladesh. The cyclonic circulations will lead to rainfall at many places in the State in the next two days,” said HR Biswas, Director, Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar. The weather forecasters informed that heavy rains might also occur at some places in the State after two days.

Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) said the rains might continue till July 9, after which the cyclonic circulation could shift again northwards towards North Odisha and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal coast, causing increase in rainfall activity in North Odisha from July 10.

“The normal rainfall over Odisha in June and July being 213.8 mm and 336.8 mm respectively, precipitation up to July 12 might be nearly equal to normal rainfall, but it might not compensate the deficit of minus 26 per cent till July 4,” he added. The officials of CEC said there was also a possibility of low pressure formation over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Odisha-West Bengal coast on July 13, which could lead to heavy rainfall in North Odisha up to July 15, compensating the deficit rainfall till now.
