Subway construction delays trains

LUDHIANA: With the ongoing construction work of limited-height subways on the northern railway route, trains coming from the north east continued to arrive late by several hours on Thursday. More than ten trains arrived behind their scheduled hours. This irked the passengers waiting on the different platforms of the city railway station.
Passengers mostly waiting for the trains from Mumbai, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh trains were seemed more impatient as those coming from eastern parts of the country are facing maximum hours of delay on Thursday. Train number 13005 Amritsar-Howrah Express arrived from Howrah after 7 hours and 10 minutes and reached station at 12.50pm. The said train usually reaches at 5.40 in the morning.

Station superintendent, Ashok Salaria, said, “Due to some construction works of limited-height subways in the northern railway route, several long-route trains arrived late by several hours on Thursday. Another reason for delay of long-route trains is the heavy rush due to the vacations as several summer special trains have been started by the northern railway to make travelling convenient for passengers.”

Inquiry officials said train number 15707 Amrapali Express from Katihar to Amritsar arrived at city station almost one hour after its scheduled time at 9.20am. Darbhanga – Amritsar Jan Nayak Express (15211), Amritsar – Howrah Mail (13006), Kolkata – Jammu Tawi Express (13151) and Lohit Express faced delays of about 4 hours.
