Says its men not involved in murder

The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) on Thursday accused the CPI(M)-led government of witch-hunt and framing its activists in the Abhimanyu murder case.

Addressing the media on Thursday, SDPI State president P. Abdul Majeed Faisi reiterated that its workers were not involved in the murder though the police had taken many of its activists into custody for suspected involvement in the crime.

“The police have reportedly identified 12 suspects. It is yet to be officially announced if they belonged to the SDPI. However, our party offices are being ransacked and houses of activists are being raided even during midnight,” he alleged.

Asked about a report that said one of the branch secretaries of the party has been identified as a suspect, Mr. Faisi said the SDPI had not yet inquired into it. “From our preliminary inquiry, none of our activists were involved in the crime,” he said.

Mr. Faisi said his organisation had nothing to do with the Campus Front of India (CFI), which has been accused of being involved in the murder, though he clarified that CFI members could be SDPI members as well.

Mr. Faisi accused the police of framing party activists in cases not related to the Abhimanyu murder. He alleged that some activists were now being arrested for their involvement in the march taken out to the High Court in connection with the Hadiya case.
