Plantation programme held in Brahmapur 

Brahmapur: On the 4th day of Van Mahotsav, a plantation progrmme led by BDA Chairman Subash Moharana was organised at the Aska Road here on Thursday. Local MLA Ramesh Chandra Chaupattnaik was chief guest. He urged people to save trees, to do more plantations and avoid using polythene for a better living environment. Locals of Tulasi Nagar, Swaraj Bihar, Somnath Nagar, Gokul Dham near Gosani Nuagan and Giri Road Girl’s High School participated in the programme. Among others, Bijay Kumar Samal, Jagannath Sabat, Sanghamitra Dalai, Mamata Bisoyi, Bhisma Charya Choudhry, R Murali Mohan Rao, Sushant Sabat, jornalist Sudeep Sahu, Rash Bihari Dash and M Venkat Raman were present.

Van Mahotsav observed at Umarkote Tehsil 

Umarkote: A plantation drive was held at the Umarkote Tehsil office premises here on Wednesday to observe Van Mahotsav. Inaugurating the plantation drive local Tehsildar Dharamraj Majhi said plants serving humanity since times should be protected. Former Umarkote Municipal Chairman Jhadeswar Mohanty said in a society trees play an important role equally in the achievement of human security. Among others, Umarkote Municipality Executive Officer V Prasad Rao, IIC Birendar Senapati, Additional Tehsildar Chinmaya Sagar and senior lawyer Srinibas Patnaik were present.

Octogenarian dies as wall collapses in JSpur

Jagatsinghpur: In a tragic incident, an octogenarian died as a wall of his under-construction mud house collapsed over him at Alukholanga village under the Erasama area on Wednesday. He was identified as Bhima Nayak. Soon after the incident, locals rescued the severely injured Nayak from the debris and rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought-dead by doctors.

Ganja worth Rs 5L seized in Malkangiri

Cuttack: Personnel of the Mathili police station in Malkangiri district on Wednesday night seized 125 kg of ganja and a car which was used for transportation of the contraband. But the accused managed to escape taking advantage of darkness. The cost of the seized cannabis was estimated to be approximately Rs  five lakh.
