HASSAN: People in Hassan, the home turf of JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda, are not happy with budget proposals as the coalition government failed to give priority to many projects in the district.

People from different sections of society, including farmers, labourers and office-bearers of the District Chamber of Commerce, have criticised the budget. Malnad people who have been facing elephant menace for two decades have termed the budget as poor.

CM H D Kumaraswamy presented the annual budget only aiming at particular departments. People are not happy with the budget, though Hassan district received more when compared to other districts.

New proposals include Rs 50 crore for a mega-dairy,  a brainchild of PWD Minister H D Revanna, Rs 70 crore for drinking water to 160 villages in Shantigrama hobli which comes under Holenarasipur, 400-bed hi-tech hospital apart from existing 500-bed HIMS hospital, Rs 30 crore for the development of outer ring road in Hassan and Rs10 crore proposed for rejuvenation of the century-old implements manufacturing factory in Hassan city.

The CM has given importance to tourism, sanctioned a tourist guide training centre and star hotel in Belur.
People are unhappy with the proposals as the government has failed to give importance to burning problems of the district. The CM has neglected the long-pending proposal to set up an elephant corridor in Sakleshpur.
