PATIALA: A local court on Friday issued
non-bailable warrants against three relatives of former senior superintendent of police,
SS Grewal, who had been booked by the state vigilance bureau for amassing wealth beyond his known sources of income while being posted at top positions during his tenure with the state police.
The warrants have been issued against Grewal’s son
Jasjit Singh, his brother-in-law
Jaswinder Singh and his cousin
Pritpal Singh after they failed to turn up before the court despite being summoned. However, the three have already filed a plea for anticipatory bail in the
Punjab and Haryana high court, which is still pending.
While Grewal was accused of buying ‘benami’ land at different places across the state besides investing the money in fixed deposits (FD‘s) worth around Rs 25-30 crores, his three relatives had also been mentioned in the FIR registered by the vigilance bureau as this money had also been invested in their names.
In March, this year, The Supreme Court had refused to grant Grewal an anticipatory bail and asked him to join the investigations. But as the VB told the SC that he was not co-operating with the investigators and had moved a request for the immediate arrest of the accused, the apex court had dismissed his bail plea and directed him to surrender before the concerned court which he did on April 17.
Meanwhile, during further investigations the vigilance team had found a banquet hall at Khanna in Ludhiana district, while 25 bighas of agriculture land in Bhasaur village near Dhuri in Sangrur district., besides the other recoveries, made earlier during the investigations.
