Cape Town - Belgium have booked their place in the World Cup semi-finals after defeating Brazil 2-1 in a thrilling quarter-final match in Russia on Friday.

As it happened: Brazil v Belgium

Belgium took the lead in the 13th minute after a corner was diverted into the back of the net by Fernandinho's shoulder - resulting in an own goal.

The young Belgium side continued to put pressure on the World Cup 'favourites' in Kazan.

Kevin De Bruyne extended Belgium's lead with a low-shot into the corner of the net and beyond the dive of Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson.

Belgium took a 2-0 lead heading into the second-half.

However, it wasn't over - three minutes after coming in as substitute - Brazil's Renato Augusto connected with a cross from Philippe Coutinho and headed the ball into the net in the 76th minute.

However, it was not enough for the five-time champions as they are sent packing home with a 2-1 defeat.

This result sees France take on Belgium on Tuesday, July 10 - after the French defeated Uruguay 2-0 in their quarter-final clash.
