Toyota Prius Driver Avoids Out-of-Control Chevy, Hits Barrier Instead

Even though the person behind the wheel of the dashcam car, a 2002 Toyota Prius, reacted quickly and quite well to that white Malibu head his way, what followed wasn’t as graceful.

The first correction was sufficient so as to avoid making contact with the Chevy. The second one, not so much. It’s also possible he may have lifted off the brakes at the wrong time, although in the comments section he says that the ABS “took him for a ride”.

Did the 2002 Prius come with any type of stability control technology? No, and that’s definitely going to make a difference in these types of situations. You don’t have an electronic safety net, which means that it’s up to you to control the car. It takes both awareness and skill, especially at highway speeds – and, even so, there are cases where you simply can’t avoid an accident.

The driver of the Prius, Jeff Lee, also states that the semi truck was never seen from after that incident, and so the incident was declared a Felony Hit and Run. Although the semi truck driver had pretty much nothing to do with what happened. Still, it’s obvious that they should have stopped.

In the end, it’s the Malibu that remains the biggest question mark. Why would its driver pull such a maneuver like that on a semi, and on a highway at that? That’s pretty reckless and we hope that no one was injured.
