Pune crime branch recently seized 70kg marijuana worth Rs 10.55 lakh from a car on Pune-Solapur highway in Hadapar. The police have detained four men for questioning.
A team from the anti-narcotics cell of crime branch led by inspector Sunil Dorge has taken action against the suspects on a tip-off.
Dorge said that for the past one month teams of anti-narcotics cell have been carry out patrolling on the city roads to curb trafficking of Ganja (marijuana) into the city from other states. “Recently our team was patrolling on Pune-Solapur highway, when we noticed a black coloured car was halted along the highway in Hadapsar,” Dorge said.
He said that the police became suspicious after noticing the movements of the four persons in the car. “Following which we checked the car and found marijuana in five bags,” Dorge said.
Dorge said the police found 70kg of marijuana worth Rs 10.55 lakh in the car. “We have seized it along with the car,” Dorge said.
The probe revealed that the suspects had brought the marijuana from Odisha state and were in preparation of selling it in Pune. “We have registered an offence under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act against the suspects,” Dorge added.
