Hsu explained Filipinos visiting Taiwan in 2017 reached 290,784, posting a 68.59 percent increase in comparison to the data in 2016.
In the meantime, at present, Taiwan is the 6th top tourist source market of Philippines and has recorded over 60,000 Taiwanese visitors in the country during the first three months of this year, said Hsu.
“These figures show the booming of our two-way tourism industry, and more importantly, the growing understanding of each other’s country and culture,” said Hsu during the Taiwan Tourism Workshop 2018 in a hotel in Manila on Wednesday.
Hsu additionally mentioned that in line with Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen’s ‘New Southbound Policy,’ the Philippines has become “a top priority partner in terms of strengthening Taiwan’s relationship with its neighboring Asian countries.”
“With the implementation of the visa-free policy for Filipinos last November, and the possibility of extending the program… my government believes that Taiwan and the Philippines can be best partners. And by our joint efforts, we are capable of achieving more than we can imagine,” said Hsu.
Hsu said that the tourism industry of Taiwan “has been very much improved over the years.”
The official explained that Taiwan is considered as “one of the safest countries in the world for both its residents and tourists.”
He then emphasized the famous attractions of Taiwan like Taipei 101, National Palace Museum, the wide variety of its cuisine, efficient transportation system, the diverse and vibrant culture, and the warm Taiwanese hospitality that make Taiwan an attractive tourist destination.”
