Calling Modi government’s decision to hike Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Kharif crop as historic, BJP chief Amit Shah said that the government was fulfilling promises it had made to farmers because it believed in `Sabka saath, Sabka vikas’ in the true sense.

"The BJP government had earlier introduced effective crop insurance scheme for farmers and now, the hike in MSP is testimony to Modi government's commitment towards 'Sabka saath-Sabka vikas'. Unlike previous regimes, whose schemes remained only on files and never came out of party’s manifestos, Modi Sarkar is delivering its promises on ground," Shah told reporters in Mirzapur where he had gone for a day on Wednesday.

Shah also congratulated the Prime Minister and his cabinet for approving the historic rise in MSP for Kharif crops.

"This reflects Modi government's commitment towards doubling farmer's income. This will not only assure better price for produce, but also improve farmers' quality of life," he said.

Elaborating on government's decision, Shah said that there was a hike of around 50 per cent in MSP of 24 Kharif crops.

He said that the MSP of Moong has been hiked by Rs 1400 per quintal, sunflower by Rs 1280 per quintal, cotton by Rs 1300 per quintal and paddy by Rs 200 per quintal. "Besides, MSP of other crops too have been hiked extensively," he said.

Shah came to Mirzapur on Wednesday and held a closed-door meeting with party workers of three regions, aiming to brace up for the coming 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The BJP chief, who was late by around two hours, first paid obeisance at Vindyavasini temple along with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and then met vistaraks of Gorakhpur, Kashi and Awadh regions to discuss poll strategy. He also took feedback of party workers from the region.

BJP surces told 'The Pioneer' that Shah had a detailed discussion on 30 Lok Sabha seats which caome under three regions. The meeting was attended by state BJP chief Mahendra Pandey, state general secretary (organisation) Sunil Bansal, regional general secretaries Salil Bishnoi and Pankaj Singh.

However, local MPs, Legislators and RSS functionaries were kept away from the meeting.

These meetings seem important as the Prime Minister was likely to address a rally in Varanasi on July 15.

Later, Shah left from Varanasi, where he had interaction with leaders of Parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

After a night halt in Varanasi, Shah will go to Agra on Thursday to interact with party leaders of Kanpur-Bundelkhand, Braj and western regions.
