Protesters seek steel plant in Kadapa

The Left parties-sponsored bandh of educational institutions on Wednesday demanding development of the Rayalaseema region in general and establishment of steel plant in Kadapa in particular, was peaceful, barring an incident in the city in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s effigy was burnt.

As universities were yet to reopen for the academic year, there was not much impact on the campuses. But private colleges and schools voluntarily closed for the day.

Members of the AISF, the AIYF, the SFI, the DYFI, and the NSF took out a rally from the CPI(M) office and burnt the effigy of Mr. Modi near the MCT Circle, accusing the Centre of resorting to double talk on the Special Category Status (SCS) and obstructing the State’s development. The leaders also blamed the Centre for “stalling” the Kadapa steel plant, which, once realised, would provide thousands of jobs to the local youth.

DYFI district secretary S. Jayachandra demanded a package similar to the one given to Bundelkhand, for the Rayalaseema region.
