SHGs to audit MNREGA works

Social audit of hundred percent works carried out under MNREGA will be conducted by Women Self-Help Groups. A target to plant 60 lakh saplings has been set through MNREGA for this year.

These decisions were taken in the 5th general meeting of MP Employment Guarantee Council held under the Chairmanship of Minister for Panchayat and Rural Development Gopal Bhargava. Minister for Revenue Umashankar Gupta was also present in the meeting.

Bhargava has said that construction of many assets is undertaken in rural areas through MNREGA.

The social audit of these works should be conducted by the villagers. He further mentioned that social audit of works being carried out in the fiscal year 2018-19 should be conducted by at least 3 members of women self-help group of the concerned village.

These groups will hand over a report to their gram sabhas within a week, after conducting a physical verification of works.

These reports will be read out in gram sabhas in presence of villagers. Action will be proposed by holding accountability of persons concerned, if any flaw is found in works. A representative of District Collector will present in each gram sabha. Opportunity will be given to those persons, against whom action will be proposed to present their side. In this regard, a public hearing panel has also been formed under the Chairmanship of Chief Executive Officer of District Panchayat.

Bhargava further mentioned that plantation work should also be carried out on priority under the MNREGA during the rainy season. Gram Panchayats should be decided as agency for this work and give them responsibility for plantation. He said that saplings, proposed to be planted should be 2 to 3 years old.

Plantation work will be carried out necessarily on boundaries of farms, public campuses and government land besides canals’ edge.

The Additional Chief Secretary Panchayat and Rural Development Iqbal Singh Bains has said that works being carried out under the MNREGA are being monitored through Geo-Tag App, the best App of the country. Geo-tagging of 25.21 lakh works have already been accomplished, out of 29.85 lakh complete works in the state.
