Company supplying child nutrition to Tamil Nadu under Income Tax scanner

CHENNAI: Christy Friedgrams Industry, a food processing company closely associated with the implementation of Integrated Child Development Scheme, is now under the scanner of Income Tax Department on suspicion of tax evasion and floating a large number of shell companies.

A top Income Tax department official told Express that 70 premises of Tiruchengode-based company in being inspected across Tamil Nadu today.

According to its website, CFI started operations a few years after the first ICDS scheme was announced in Tamil Nadu by the then Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M G Ramachandran in 1982.

The company claims that it serves 563 Aanganwadis in Tamil Nadu and providing nutritious food to two lakh children in the state.

Similar raids are also being carried out in three places in Karnataka. The company is owned by one TS Kumarasamy.
