CHANDIGARH: A day after the Punjab Government made it mandatory for all the 3.50 lakh state government employees to undergo dope test, AAP MLA Aman Arora today surprised everyone by taking an anti-drugs test.
Meanwhile, former union minister and Congress leader Manish Tewari challenged his own party Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to make dope test mandatory for all MLAs and MPs from the state.
After giving the dope test at Mohali at the Government Hospital in Mohali, Arora tweeted,`` Though I'm not against this order, but let's be honest @capt_amarinder ji, it has been the Politicians who had patronised Drug Mafia.
Instead of these orders, as head of the State, U should have taken the first step. Nevertheless I got my DOPE TEST done today. When r U getting it done Sir?'' He thus, became the first legislator of the state to undergo dope test.
Interestingly it came barely hoer Tewari dared Amarinder to make dope test mandatory for all lawmakers.
While welcoming this move and demanding dope test for all legislators of the state, Tewari said that it will remove the artificial distinction between two classes of government servants, as he tweeted, "Dope Test of Govt Servants for recruitment/ promotions proposed by Punjab Govt is a welcome step. Must be made mandatory for all MLA's & MP's from state. It would not only set an example but unreasonable classification between two classes of Public Servants may not meet test of law.''
Meanwhile, the Panchayats and Rural Development Minister Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa today went for a dope test but was reportedly told to come next week as he is on medication for a medical problem thus his test cannot be conducted the doctor told him at government hospital in Mohali.
Bajwa went a step ahead and announced that in the forthcoming panchayat elections of 13,000 panchayats in the state all the contesting candidates will have to undergo a dope test.
Bajwa said that he has proposed mandatory dope test for the elections to panchayats, zila parishad and panchayat samitis.
The proposal would be put up in the next cabinet meeting. It will also cover women candidates. He argued that it would be right step to take the anti-drug movement to the village level.
The representatives of various state government employee organisations had been demanding that legislators and ministers should set an example themselves first by undergoing dope test. Attacking the akalis Cooperation Minister, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said that in 2013 during SAD-BJP rule he had demanded in the assembly that all the MLAs must undergo dope test.
But at that time, the then Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal kept mum so now he has no moral right to ask for dope test of MLAs and demand to conduct dope test on the akali dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal and narco test of Bikram Singh Majithia.
