Ludhiana: Nomad murdered over old rivalry

LUDHIANA: Some miscreants allegedly murdered a youth from the nomad community over an old rivalry at Kumaut village on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as 29-year-old Manja.

Manja's father Mujaudeen said that on Wednesday evening, his son went out with his friends. When he did not return till late night, they started looking for him in the neighbourhood.

In the meantime, a villager told Mujahideen’s daughter Zaina that he had seen Manjha going towards the fields. She added that while they were grazing buffaloes near the fields, a group of eight to ten miscreants came in Bolero vehicle and threw her brother from the vehicle.

Zaina told police that the miscreants told them that the way “you killed our man Laddi, in the same manner we have killed your man”. She added that when Manja was thrown by the miscreants from the vehicle, he was breathing and had injury marks on his body.

Manja's sister said he died while being shifted to the civil hospital. She added that the accused wished to kill her younger brother Yaqoob because they suspected that he had a hand in disappearance of gangster Laddi but instead killed her elder brother.

Zaina said that Yaqoob is in jail in connection with the kidnapping of Laddi and the accused harboured a grudge against them. She added that the accused had also threatened them many times.

Police officials said that based on Zaina's statement, ten persons have been booked for murder. They added that the accused included Qasim of Gurdaspur, Jamatu of Amritsar, Paiyovon of Chawa in Gurdaspur, Allu, Seeku of Jandyala, Sharief of Alamgir, Farman of Ludhiana, cheecha of Phagwara, Laalu of Phagwara. Station House Officer (SHO) Koom Kalan, Harjinder Singh said that the deceased had blunt injuries in the arm, body area but not in head and throat. He added that board of doctors is conducting post-mortem of the deceased after which cause of death will be known.

SHO said that further investigation in the case is on and sister of the deceased has claimed that the “attackers” had told that the way they killed their man, they killed the deceased.
