Man wanted for lewd act on Melbourne train

Police are looking for a man who allegedly performed a lewd act on a Melbourne train earlier this year.

The man allegedly began masturbating in front of a female passenger while travelling on a Glen Waverley-bound train about 3.45pm on Tuesday, January 2.

The man had boarded at Flinders Street and left the train at Tooronga station.

Detectives have released an image of a man they want to speak to. He is of Southern European appearance and around 40-years-old with short, dark curly hair. He was wearing black track pants, a brown T-shirt and carrying a black and orange backpack.

The incident is one of a string of sexual offences recently committed on the city's trains. In June, a 34-year-old Mentone man was charged with sexual activity directed at another person for masturbating in front of a female passenger on an early-morning Hurstbridge train.

Police are still looking for a man in his early 20s who allegedly repeatedly sexually assaulted a woman on a morning peak-hour service to the CBD in May.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
