Coimbatore: Parents of students, who study at the Corporation Girls’ Higher Secondary School at Ranganathapuram in the city, say the school has no proper water facility in its restrooms.
According to them, the situation remains the same despite several representations to school authorities. Parent of a Class XII student said he had taken up the issue with the school authorities in June first week.
“They had then promised to take measures to rectify the water shortage. But nothing has been done so far,” he said.
The parent, who did not want to be named, said the children had been abstaining from using the restrooms in the school as there was no adequate water. “Our children stay in the school from 8.30am to 5.30pm. How can they abstain from using the restroom that long? Initially, our children had not disclosed the issue to us as they feared repercussions at the school,” the parent said.
The school has three restrooms. School management, meanwhile, said water level in its borewell had gone down, leading to the water crisis. When contacted, a school official said, “There was water shortage before, but we managed the situation by getting water from outside.”
The school authorities have also petitioned the corporation chief education officer, Ravi, in this regard. When contacted, Ravi said he had received a representation from the school authorities. “I have forwarded the issue to the junior engineer and assistant commissioner of the area. They would look into issue and rectify it,” he said.
The corporation chief education officer said they also have plans to connect a pipeline from a borewell nearby to the school’s water connection. “Earlier, we had done the same to another corporation school, which complained of water shortage,” Ravi further said.
