Giants fear Patton needs third knee reconstruction
Greater Western Sydney forward Jonathon Patton is facing potentially his third knee reconstruction after injuring his knee on Thursday.
The Giants forward landed awkwardly attempting a mark at training and will have scans for a suspected injury to his anterior cruciate ligament.
Patton, 25, who has played 89 games, has already undergone two knee reconstructions on his right knee, in 2013 and 2014, but this time he has injured his left knee.
The Giants will learn on Friday the extent of the injury but are fearing the worst for the No.1 pick from the 2011 draft.
"The initial diagnosis for Jon doesn't look positive however we'll await the results of scans on Friday," Giants football manager Wayne Campbell said.
"He has the full support of everyone at the Giants during this challenging time."
Patton was dropped for poor form earlier this year but has been building steadily since his return to the team in round 10.
The injury is also a huge blow to the resurgent Giants' chances of making the finals. The club is already without suspended spearhead Jeremy Cameron, who has four matches left to serve of a five-game ban.
The Giants are also without topliners Tom Scully, Zac Williams, Brett Deledio and Toby Greene, all of whom have seen little action this season.
