Nagpur: The stay imposed by Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court on the dissolution of Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) continued on Wednesday. The HC, while hearing a petition filed by Satyavrat Datta who is the president of the Vaidnyanik Vikas Yuwak Aghadi, had stayed the state cabinet’s decision in this regard on June 13.
Dutta had pointed out that seven schemes started by NIT were still incomplete and the future of its employees would be in jeopardy due to its dissolution. He further pointed out that the bodies like Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) exist and, therefore, there was no violation of Article 243-ZD and 243-ZE of the Constitution of India.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had taken the decision to dissolve the NIT under pressure from the corporators of his party. There was no demand from citizens in this regard. The financial condition of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is bad and the corporators hope that by taking over NIT's assets, NMC's condition would improve.
