Marks-tampering racket inside VTU?

University denies it removed 11 contract employees for over issue
Some members of theVisvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) have claimed that the university is trying to keep under wraps a marks-tampering racket that it has stumbled upon.
This comes after the termination of contracts of 11 employees working with the examination section of the university. University officials have denied the allegation that they have been removed from service for marks-tampering.
Bangalore Mirror that there have been complaints and suspicions around these contract employees’ actions, which is why the university decided not to renew their services .
A source said this came to light a few months ago when a student of an engineering college inBengaluru went all the way to Belagavi to meet an employee, who was working at the examination section of the university. Higher officials smelt a rat in this meeting, as the employee was working with the data entry unit. An inquiry was conducted and officials have in all probability stumbled upon a marks-tampering racket. The higher officials of the exam section brought this to the vice-chancellor and registrar’s notice and they decided to terminate the 11 employees’ contracts.
No marks tampering
Though officials deny there has been any tampering of marks, the question of why their contracts were terminated still remains. Several Executive Council (EC) members too got information on the alleged tampering of marks. A member said, “The truth of the allegation should be decided by an internal or external inquiry. As per the act and statues of VTU, without the nod of the Executive Council, the university has no powers to suspend or remove any employee. What was the hurry to remove those employees?”
Prof Jagannath Reddy, registrar of VTU, denied the allegation. “This is just propaganda. These people in the data entry section were on temporary appointment. We were not satisfied with the work so we terminated their contracts. We don’t require the EC’s permission to do this. They are contract employees and we can terminate their services whenever we want.”
