Teen charged over violent out-of-control Airbnb party in Hawthorn East

A teenager has been charged after a $3 million Airbnb rental home in Hawthorn East was trashed during an out-of-control party.

Boroondara Crime Investigation Unit detectives charged a 17-year-old boy over criminal damage allegedly committed at a wild party in the luxury home on Hastings Road on Saturday night.

Investigators arrested the teenager on Thursday morning following a search warrant at a Hampton Park house.

Earlier this week, police raided a number of homes on Melbourne's fringe after neighbours described how they were forced to set their guard dog on teens jumping into their yard from the Airbnb party.

Police were called to the house on Hastings Road about 6am on Sunday to discover it had been graffitied, furniture destroyed, vehicles vandalised and walls damaged after more than 50 youths packed the property.

It follows a spate of home-wrecking "pop-up" parties that have left locals across Melbourne terrified and some short-term rental property owners with tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage.

Parties at short-term rental properties in North Melbourne, Werribee and Footscray have all made headlines in recent months after spiralling out of control.

Earlier this year, a party at a townhouse in North Melbourne saw police cars mashed.

The 17-year-old was charged with one count of criminal damage, one count of possessing cannabis and committing an indictable offence while on bail.

He will appear at a children’s court at a later date.
