The Udyanam scheme launched under ‘Change can Change Climate Change’ initiative is a model scheme, Haritha Keralam Mission executive vice chairperson T.N. Seema has said.
She was speaking after seeing the activities taken up as part of Udyanam, under which mounds of garbage on the Manmohan Bungalow-Golf Links road were cleaned and transformed into floral gardens.
Ms. Seema said people’s involvement and monitoring were necessary for the success of Udyanam.
Waste segregation
As part of Udyanam, waste is segregated into biodegradable and non-biodegradable. Degradable waste is filled into grow-bags and ornamental plants grown, while plastic waste is washed and sent to recycling units.
Terumo Penpol is the main sponsor.
As many as 30 waste-dumping centres have been cleaned and decorated with ornamental plants and wall paintings under Change can Change Climate Change.
