NMC plastic ban drive losing steam

Nagpur: It seems the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is going soft on people using banned plastic products. On Thursday, the flying squad of the NMC found only two persons using banned products and a penalty of Rs5,000 each were recovered from them.
Both the cases were reported in Gandhibagh zone, confirmed an official from NMC’s solid waste management department. The officer, however, said the drive has lost momentum due to ongoing monsoon session of state legislature.

According to statistics, the civic body had penalized 150 traders between June 23 and June 30 and recovered a fine of Rs6.84 lakh, while in the first four days of July, the flying squad fined 31 traders and recovered Rs1.55 lakh.
