NEW DELHI: The
special cell of
Delhi Police has arrested two
hitmen of the notorious
Irfan Chhenu gang who were going to eliminate Irfan’s rival,
Nasir Khyber Hayat, and two others, including a witness. The development has rubbished reports of a
“compromise” between the two dreaded gangs of northeast Delhi.
Last October, Chhenu had sent out a group of killers to assassinate Nasir’s associates. The hired men were shooting indiscriminately at their targets in residential areas of east Delhi and were captured on cameras during the act. One of the targets was Asif who was shot 19 times outside his house.
Eight months later, Chhenu — who is currently in Tihar Jail — planned a similar bloodshed, but this time his target was Nasir, who had managed to come out on parole. The second target was Asif’s brother, who was a witness in that case, DCP (special cell) Pramod Kushwaha said. The third target was a drug supplier in Seelampur who had been financing the Nasir gang.
According to sources, an intercepted call, where Chhenu’s shooters were discussing procurement of weapons, led the special cell to the shooters.
“The arrested men have been identified as Rizwan (20) from Chauhan Bangar and Riyaz Khanda (31) from Seelampur. Two semi-automatic pistols of 7.65mm and 11 live cartridges were seized from them,” said Kushwaha.
